Writing the next chapters

The power of storytelling was put to use for global medical products company HARTMANN in a conference co-created and facilitated by Axiom, the first under the leadership of new CEO Andreas Joehle.

More than 200 leaders from around the world gathered for the three-day event to discuss strategy and performance, share ideas and agree how to drive the company’s growth.

The storytelling theme helped convey to participants that they and their teams would be the authors of the company’s continuing success.

Also, in the build-up to the event, we coached speakers from the top team to use storytelling to engage the audience. We then used a seminar during the event to encourage and equip participants to use storytelling techniques to share key messages with their teams back home. Instead of the usual cascade slide pack, each participant received a personalised notebook in which to make their own detailed notes. These were the basis for the stories they would go on to tell in their part of the business.

Throughout, iPad audience interaction technology, provided by Crystal Interactive, allowed delegates to register their views, ideas and questions. The technology facilitated open, lively discussion of key issues and enabled clear conclusions to be reached.

In addition, we used the technology to run a quiz that tested how well participants had retained key messages. A ‘best storyteller’ prize was given to the speaker whose session achieved the highest levels of recall.

The HARTMANN Group provides medical and healthcare solutions in three main market segments: wound management, incontinence management and infection prevention. It employs more than 10,000 people worldwide and generated sales of €1,758 million in 2012.
